📮 Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office.
- Handle India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) operations.
- Marketing and promotion of Department products and services.
- In single-handed Branch Offices, overall responsibility for smooth functioning of the office.
- Mail conveyance and mail delivery duties may also be involved.
- BPM must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost.
- BPM is required to reside in the post village where the Branch Office is functioning.
📬 Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Sale of stamps and stationery.
- Conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep.
- IPPB deposits, payments and other transactions.
- Assist the BPM in postal operations.
- Marketing and promotion of postal products and services.
- May perform combined BPM duties when required.
- Required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.
📦 Dak Sevak
- Sale of stamps and stationery.
- Mail and parcel delivery.
- Handling of mail bags and parcels.
- Work in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices and Delivery Centres.
- Assist in smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices.
- May perform marketing, business procurement and other assigned duties.
- Required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the attached Post Office.
⏰ Service Conditions
- GDS are governed by the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- GDS are holders of Civil Posts outside the regular Civil Services.
- They are generally required to serve in rural areas.
- Minimum working period: 4 hours per day.
- Maximum working period: 5 hours per day.
- A GDS cannot be retained beyond 65 years of age.
- GDS must have another source of income for adequate means of livelihood.
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Candidate must have passed 10th standard.
- Passing marks in Mathematics and English are required.
- The examination must be conducted by a recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India / State Government / Union Territory.
- Equivalent qualification from another board is not eligible as specified in the notification.
- Candidate must have studied the prescribed local language up to 10th standard.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of cycling.
- Adequate means of livelihood.

🗣️ Local Language Requirement
Candidates must have studied the prescribed local language at least up to 10th Standard. The post-wise local language is provided in the notification's Annexure-III.
View Special Language Requirements
- Arunachal Pradesh: English or Hindi studied up to 10th standard plus knowledge of the prescribed tribal local language/dialect.
- Goa: Konkani or Marathi at 10th standard level. Candidates who studied only Marathi must also possess proficiency in Konkani as specified in the notification.
- Sikkim: English and any one of the prescribed local languages such as Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar or Bhujel.
- Nagaland: English or Hindi studied up to 10th standard and knowledge of any of the prescribed tribal local languages/dialects.

🏆 Selection Process
Complete OTR and submit the online application.
System-generated merit list based on 10th standard marks/converted grades.
Shortlisted candidates undergo physical verification of original documents.
Eligible candidates proceed with joining and engagement formalities.
📈 Merit List Calculation
- Merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the 10th standard examination.
- Marks are aggregated to percentage up to 4 decimal places.
- Where only grades/points are available, the Department applies the prescribed conversion formula.
- The multiplication factor for grade/point conversion is 9.5.
- Where CGPA is provided, the CGPA is multiplied by 9.5.
- Candidates should enter their details exactly as recorded in their Class X marksheet.
📍 Division Selection & Post Preference
- A candidate can apply for one or more vacant GDS posts within one selected Division.
- Eligible posts are displayed according to community, age, PwBD status and local language.
- The candidate must provide preference for the posts they want to be considered for.
- If a candidate is shortlisted for more than one opted post, only the post corresponding to the applicable preference order will be offered.
- Rights for the remaining posts will be forfeited after selection for one post.

Shortlisted candidates must attend physical document verification with original documents and two sets of self-attested photocopies, as applicable.

🔎 Document Verification & Joining
- Shortlisted candidates are informed through the GDS Online Engagement Portal.
- SMS and email are also used for communication.
- Shortlisted candidates must report for physical verification within 15 days from shortlisting.
- Original documents are physically verified by the designated authority.
- After successful verification, a system-generated offer of provisional engagement is issued.
- Pre-engagement formalities must be completed within 30 days from the offer of provisional engagement.
- These formalities include prescribed basic training and accommodation arrangements, where applicable.
⚠️ Important Instructions
- Only one registration is permitted per candidate.
- Duplicate/multiple registrations or applications are strictly prohibited.
- Mobile number and email ID used for registration cannot be changed.
- Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth should match the 10th marksheet.
- Blurred or illegible photograph/signature may result in rejection.
- Wrong or false information may result in cancellation of candidature.
- Past experience or service of any kind is not considered for selection.
- Applicants should regularly visit the official GDS portal for updates.
